Being a Pioneer

This summer we had the opportunity to volunteer at This Is The Place Heritage Park. We were given our pioneer clothing and we would go up on Thursday afternoons to hang out as a pioneer family. My sister-in-law Ginger and her kids were volunteers as well. It was a fun time for the cousins to run around together and "experience" a different life.

Ginger was great and she was faithful in being there every Thursday. I can't say that we were so dedicated, but did make it enough times that Emian would ask, "When do we get to come back as normal people mom?" She did not enjoy it as much as Addison.

Addison really enjoyed the freedom she had while there. She could run around with her cousins, go do the activities, ride the trains and be there without my following her around. The kids were given an activity when we arrived and when they finished they would turn it in at the bank in exchange for a Desseret Dollar. This dollar was good just like money in the park and could be saved to be used when more were earned or it could be spent that day (which is exactly what Emian would do, spend).

This was a fun activity for the summer, but I am also looking forward to going back as a "normal" person next year!
