Kitchen Floors Before and After

I know it has taken me a couple of weeks to put up my final kitchen post. Now that life is back to normal and we're all moved in again, time has been scarce. I had nothing but time for about a month, now it's life as usual. The floor process was a little longer than I would have imagined. They sanded with a big sander the first day as well as covering every inch of the floor with a filler to fill in all spaces, holes, cracks. Day two was hands and knees using a little sander and hand scraping (you should have seen the sweat dripping, it looked like extremely tough work), as well as another round of sanding with the big sander. Day three was stain and a coat of polyurethane. Day four was two more coats of polyurethane. The result is breath taking and we love the new floors. They have a nice, matte finish, no more shiny floors. The kitchen floor blends beautifully, it looks like it has been here all along. These were the stains we were choosing from. We narrowed it down to the top left, which is called neutral. The neutral is meant to bring out the natural color of each individual piece of wood. Our floor was a mix of red and white oak. It was amazing to see how different each piece of wood looked from the next. The other we were thinking about was the middle bottom color. It was a nice medium brown. I can't tell you how much I fretted over this decision. Our floor guy laid down the stain and told me to think about it for a couple of hours while he did more sanding. This completely stressed me out. I realized Bryan wasn't going to get to see them so I took pictures and emailed them to him. I had at least three or four people come over and give their opinion. In the end D, the floor guy, could see how hard I was making this decision, so he sanded around the area and told me to sleep on it. Having Bryan see the colors in person helped immensely and we chose the neutral and didn't look back. We are very happy with our decision

Before
This is our dining and living area before. The floors had yellowed over time and the finish had not held up. The people who sold us the house attempted a do-it-yourself job and it was quite obvious in a few spots.

After
It is hard to see the vast difference between the two, but I promise, it is a big difference. The new floor looks fantastic. We've enjoyed walking around and picking our favorite piece of wood. Each has such a unique look and color.

Kitchen Before The floors had become a mess in the kitchen remodel. I was worried they couldn't get past the gunk, but boy was I wrong...

Kitchen Floor After The floors blend so nicely and gives the upstairs such a nice, uniform look!

We were finally ready to have a meal in the kitchen and use the new seating area!
We did pancakes on the new griddle and have since loved utilizing every inch of the new kitchen!
